Dr. A. Jesu Arockia Raj, Professor in Biotechnology from the SRM Institute of Science and Technology, completed his Ph.D. at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, in 2002. After he received his doctorate, he moved to different universities, including Shantou University, China; Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel; Jeju National University, South Korea; and the University of Malaya, Malaysia, for his postdoctoral research between 2004 and 2012. He received various prestigious awards, including the Young Scientist Award and DBT’s Prestigious Ramalingaswami Fellowship Award, from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. He is recognized as a distinguished Fellow of the Eurasian Academy of Environmental Sciences and has received the EAES International Award for Environmental Biotechnology (2023). He has filed a patent for the invention of ‘keeping water-growing algae out of water for 3-6 months’, for which he received the Tamil Nadu Young Scientist Award 2014 in Biological Sciences from the Tamil Nadu Academy of Science. He has also received the India Research Excellence Citation Award 2021 in Agricultural Science by Clarivate (powered by Web of Science), and he has also been listed as a World Top 2% Researcher for four consecutive years (2021, 2022, 2023 & 2024) by Elsevier and Stanford University, USA. Best of all, he has published 276 research articles in peer-reviewed journals with a cumulative impact factor exceeding 1250 on ‘Immunology, Molecular Biology, Toxicology, and Pharmacology’. He has established a research laboratory on ‘Toxicology and Pharmacology’ at SRM Institute Science and Technology, Kattankulathur Campus. He received various research grants from DBT, DST-SERB, UGC and MoES, Govt. of India with a total outlay of Rs. 4.21 crores during the period 2012 – 2023. So far, 14 Ph.D. students have received their doctorates under his mentorship and 8 candidates are pursuing. He is a Life member in many professional bodies including Indian Science Congress Association, Indian Nano-Biologist Association, The Biotech Research Society, Society of Biotechnologist, and Eurasian Academy of Environmental Sciences. His research team has so far invented 242 immune-related molecules from aquatic organisms and studied them in detail at the molecular level.
